A Text Book of Plant Breeding
The book has been divided into seven parts. The first part, introduces the subject and builds up on the basic information required in plant breeding. Part Two, deals with the various aspects of variation, including the various ways for its creation. In Part Three, various aspects of selection, as applied to self-and cross-pollinated crops, are considered in some detail. Part Four of the book covers specialized breeding approaches, i.e., approaches, which involve some aspects in addition to the creation of variation and selection, eg., hybrid adn synthetic varieties and breeding for disease adn insect resistance. Evaluation of newly evolved strains and multplication of released varieties is described in Part Five, while Part Six is devoted to organisations concerned with crop improvement, and to a discussio of the various aspects of intellectual property rights. A brief description of the breeding work on selected crops belonging to various groups is presented in Part Seven of the books.
